Wood Stability
Wood stability measures how much the wood will change its shape when the environment around it has been altered. For example, in Canada we have four full seasons. Each season has different amounts of moisture in the air. Typically, in the winter, once the furnace comes on, the heat dries everything out in your home. Furniture, trim work, and wood flooring among other things lose some moisture and as a result, they physically shrink. Apparently in Alberta and Saskatchewan, winters get very dry and solid plank flooring can be an issue in some select regions. In this instance, it would be best to pick a specie with a high stability rating. Another option is to go with engineered plank flooring rather than solid wood flooring. Most of our species come solid and engineered so you can pick what is most appropriate for your needs. The most stable material however is our Strand Woven Bamboo. It can be installed anywhere, including basements and over in-floor heating.
